Jakub Sklenar is likely to start for Olympia Warriors tonight against APIA Leichhardt in the Round-of-32 FFA Cup clash, but whether he will see out the game is open to question.

Sklenar, Olympia’s Czech striker from Sydney, suffered an ankle injury against Devonport City in a league match two weeks ago.

He trained lightly last night and there was some swelling in his ankle.

Olympia coach, Kenny Weston, believes Sklenar is a vital cog in his Olympia team and is hoping he will be fit enough to start.

He may well requite a pain-killing injection, as will midfielder Nick Mearns, who will start after being rested last Friday night when Olympia beat Hobart Zebras 2-0.

“I’m very excited,” coach Kenny Weston said. “These are opportunities in football which, when I started kicking a football, is what it was all about.

“It’s all about the big games and stepping up to the plate and taking on the best opposition that you can.

“That’s the message I give to the group. Seize the moment because they’re very few and far between.

“You don’t walk out on the pitch ever and fear anyone. You always respect them, and I’ve always said that we don’t fear teams and give everyone the same level of respect.

“But, you go out there and know what you’re capable of as individuals and, obviously, as a team and as a squad and absolutely go after the opposition.

“In cup football, there are always upsets and, whether we’re the underdog or not, there are always upsets, so stay in the game and make things difficult for them.”

Weston said Sklenar was ‘touch and go’ as to whether he would play and he would be given a final fitness test late this afternoon.

The expected Olympia line-up is:

Cole - Ortmann, Stevens, Vandermey, Sammut - Hill, Cartwright, Mearns - Wadawu, Sklenar, Undy (Subs: Bellini, Little, Hickey, Stalker, Nkoso)

Olympia players have nothing to lose and everything to gain.
Just go out and play fear nothing and give it a go.
Remember the game against South Melbourne Hellas in Melbourne.
You have done it once and can do it again best of luck boys.
Make yourselves and Tasmania proud.
