Glenorchy Knights beat Launceston City 6-2 at KGV Park today in a Victory League pre-season friendly.

What did we learn from this encounter?

Launceston City goalkeeper, Jordy van de Corput, will be one of the star performers in the 2014 Victory League.

The Dutch keeper was excellent and saved many certain goals with fine saves and clever anticipation.

He will have much to do as Launceston City are, once again, up against it.

City’s new Korean signing, Gukhyeon Kim looked quite useful in midfield and attack.

But, the Launceston outfit brought only 11 players to Hobart and had to borrow two or three Knights players for the second half, which was not a good look.

What about the Knights?

They have been attracting up to four dozen players to training, but not all the big names played in this match.

There were several players from other clubs in action, but we must wait and see who actually signs on for the 2014 season.

Former South Hobart players Sam Kruijver and Shae Hickey were on view.  Hickey has signed with his former club after six successful seasons with South Hobart.

Kruijver may well sign.  He could find that his rivals are Michael McKenna, Jason Voss and Alex Woodham.

Joel Schuth and Nick Hill were there from Kingborough Lions United, but they are yet to sign.

The Olympia Warriors contingent was Emmanuel Tsakiris, Seung Yong Jin and Harry Woolley, while Eli Luttmer and Sam James from Taroona were there.

Luttmer and James, however, may be on their way to Melbourne to attend university.

Paul Wilcock from Beachside and Hye Min Yun from University also played for the Knights.

Aaron Wilson from the NTC played and scored for Knights.

Their other scorers were Brian Kabangu, Sam James, Emmanuel Tsakiris and Seung Yong Jin, the latter netting twice.

Launceston City’s two goals came from penalties, scored by Gukhyeon Kim and Chirack Kadima.

So, nothing much can be read into this result.

Glenorchy Knights coach, Chris Hey, said he still needed a dominant midfielder or two in the absence of Jayden Hey and Declan Foley.

Hey was the first to admit that there was a lot of work to do and many decisions to make in regard to signing players.

The repairs to the artificial pitch seem to have worked, and someone told me they actually shortened the length of the artificial grass.

Coaches watching included Jed Donoghue (Tilford Zebras), Dirk Gadd (Kingborough Lions United), Romilton Amaral (University) and George Krambousanos (Taroona).

If he's not up to Victory League then why did he play first up for Lions whenever available?

Lions not up to Victory League?

Add Nick Di Falco to the list of exiting Kingborough players.

2014 getting tougher by the minute for the Lions

Is he up to VL? Very questionable. It is clear Lions will have a fairly new squad this season, will be interesting to see Pitchy's inclusions.

sounds like sour grapes IMHO

Questionable? You're clueless. If he's over the hamstring issues that cruelled his 2013 season, Knights will be well pleased.

With all due respect, the Lions haven't really replaced any of the players who have left with quality and remember that team finished 6th. But I'm guessing you already know that, yeah?

Well that's a tad disappointing , but not surprising. I show you some respect and offer to discuss football issues and the best you can up with is an insult. Perhaps best I talk to someone that's a mature individual. Good luck with your approach to life as an anonymous keyboard warrior , sad really.

While Knights won easily concerns around defence and moddle of the park are warrated.

word is another quality defender is just about to sign on.

I reckon more players are starting to think that Knights will be an attrcative option this year under one of the best V-League coaches in Chris Hey now that the list is improving by the day

ok so who's signing on?

Hickey, Di Falco, Tsakiris, Schuth, Tsakiris, Woolley, Kruiver, Wilcox ... and who konws mights even see Jayden back. not a bad bunch to be adding to the young guys already there.

If you arent prepared to put your names to your post then you are not even in the game.
Doubt you would have done half as much as Ronnie has for the game

Well thank you for your permission for me to leave the game. I shall sleep better knowing that. Perhaps you can have a coffee with me at a summer cup game and we can discuss football in Tassie. I really won't bite and I would be interested to hear your slant on where the game is going because I believe that points of view may differ but just perhaps there maybe some common ground. I am an avid football person and just want the game to be healthy for players , coaches and fans alike. Chances of you wanting to catch up ? Balls in your court.

Sorry i don't think i'll take you up on that offer. You're a tool. The ball is now through the hoop and i've won the game. Clutch
