What on earth is happening in the Southern Premier League?

It is, in effect, a four-team competition, with Nelson Eastern Suburbs and New Town Eagles arguably already out of the running.

Former A-League star Daniel Allsopp hit a hat-trick on Saturday to help Launceston City to a 4-2 victory over Tilford Zebras, their first win in the Victory League in 26 starts.

Allsopp was making a one-off appearance as a marquee player for City and certainly proved his worth.

University should have no problem in maintaining their lead at the top of the Southern Premier League standings when they host bottom-side New Town Eagles at 2.30pm today at Olinda Grove.

“Last weekend we played two games against Taroona and Kingborough and we scored three goals and conceded two,” said University coach, Romilton Amaral.

Launceston City will have former A-League striker Danny Allsopp on view when they host Tilford Zebras in their Victory League clash at Mitsubishi Park on Saturday at 5pm.

Allsopp had intended playing for City earlier this month, but a back injury caused him to postpone the guest appearance.
