Glenorchy Knights crushed Taroona 8-2 in a pre-season friendly at Prince of Wales Bay this afternoon, with both teams being under-strength.

And, six Koreans and one Japanese player will arrive in Hobart tomorrow evening [Sunday] to join League One newcomers Derwent United.

Knights led 4-0 at half-time against Taroona and Tom Sherman also had a penalty saved by the Taroona goalkeeper.

Both sides made changes at the interval, but the Knights rammed home four more goals and conceded two.

Justin Letiko netted twice for Knights, while Akuei Guot, Sherman, Andrew Robb, Simon Strang, Sam Ryan and Matthew Nowicki scored a goal apiece.

Tom Loftus and Sam James were Taroona’s marksmen.

“In the second part of the opening half, we kept possession well and played pressure football,” said Knights coach, Chris Hey.

“We managed to round their defence and create chances.

“We made several changes at half-time that changed our structure a little bit.

“Taking the week as a whole, I’d say we’ve improved and are playing good, structured football.

“I think we’re ready for Friday night when we meet Olympia in the opening game of the Summer Cup.”

Derwent United will have two more Koreans arriving during next week and all their imports are registered and ready to go.

The club will be training twice a day next week  -  once in the morning and once in the evening  -  prior to their opening Summer Cup fixture against fellow Division One outfit Metro next Sunday at 5pm at Warrior Park.

Metro will have Neil Biggar, who has made another comeback from retirement, in goal.

Coach George Krambousanos said the club was on the verge of signing an Irish striker in time for the Summer Cup.

Metro were due to play an intra-club practice match at North Chigwell this afternoon.

Meanwhile, last night, Olympia Warriors seniors beat their reserves 8-1 in an intra-club practice match at Warrior Park.

Is there a limit to how many imports a team can have? Surely SIX Korean imports would not be accepted by any other league for the one team.

Not sure it was appropriate for Glenorchy to be playing a suspended player, pretty sure it would invalidate any insurance claim, or would the club be held liable.
Can any explain

#1 Hillarious.... Wonder how junko and Fish will feel playing against there old club together, both former captains, Junko being of Cro heritage. How will his heart feel pulling on the blue Greek heritage jumper with a badge that for 97% of his life he has despised.... If he doesn't feel something it will be interesting. It's a bit like A Aussie cricketer playing in the Ashes then turning and playing for the Poms in the Series, lol. (tongue in cheek) - But true i guess...

Surely that is a joke 7 imports , FFT have to have a serious look at that ridiculous situation .why would any juniors or youth players even bother with the club. Am thinking watch this space with the other Div 1 teams not putting up with the 7 or more imports allowed In the 1 team .

I made the comment last year about Derwnt playing Div 1 and then they will aplly for a State League Licence. With the new developments happening over the eastern shore these Koreans wont be imports but citizens.
I can't believe that people are so narrow minded and don't see what's happening around them.
I think there was a post a couple of week ago that said that Derwent couldn't win in Div 4 so how could they win Div 1.

Shows you that you don't know anything about Jankos past.

He actually started his playing career as a junoir with Olympia who helped his progress and it was expected that at some stage he would play with the club where his roots are from.

But luckily he has come to back to a club that helped his career start.

Cheers.

Suk Hyo Jin is coach of Derwent Utd.

Jin has previously brought some Koreans to Tasmania as an agent for the players (Sth Hobart, CUFC).

He is now bringing 7 imports to the team he coaches - a Div 1 team.

Is Jin their agent or their coach?

Opener of the Summer Cup on Friday night...Knights v Olympia two struggling clubs from last year, yet due to circumstances with Hey senior back coaching at Knights, Hey junior making his debut, Janko Begovic and Josh Fielding playing for Olympia. Knights well and truly deserve to be favourites with recent pre-season form beating South comprehensively . Olympia going ok as well playing Div 1 teams yet getting the job done...Walter if this game was played on Saturday i had the headline for your story " Hey Hey it's Saturday" although i guess nothing wrong with " Hey Hey it's Friday"..you have my permission to use the headline although I am sure you will come up with a classic anyway..

#34 stop defending him, there is a lot of players out there that know what he actually thinks of Olympic deep down - and I reckon He would tell you himself in private. He's not one to mince words. If it wasn't for fish being there he'd never of left Knights for them. End of story. If it were me I'd be feeling strange playing against my former club with all that history. I guess he will just have to block all of that out when he plays. Walter - why don't we get an Interview happening to add to the build up to the first game and see how he does feel. My guess is he won't talk with the media.

#35 I doubt you know Janko at all. A better quality person in the game today will be hard find. I first met Janko in the mid 90's. He was just starting out as a player. In his youth he captained Olympia to a reserves premiership. As far as the Knights go the club he left is no longer in existence. Ask most home grown Knights people from yesteryear they will tell you. Janko has now chosen to help Olympia which gave him an opportunity even though the club knew at the time that he would gravitate to his roots. I am proud to be able to watch him once again in our colours of Blue and White. I hope you enjoy also.

I can't say why Janko is at Olympia now, only he can tell you that, but I'd hazard a guess like some have noted it is to play alongside Fishy - and why the hell not?

As for his past, he did not play any junior soccer there at all. He played half a season in the old summer State League. He made his senior debut with them but he left during that season to join Knights. His junior time was spent with school sides, Croatia Glenorchy, Junventus (yes Zebras) and the academy. I reckon I categorically say he didn't play a single junior game for Olympia.

I am guessing the same could be said for Jayden Hey, his heart and soul is with Olympia just ask him. What I will say is that both these players Janko being older is a true gentleman and will give 100% to the team he is playing for as he is competitive by nature and plays to win. Jayden is very competitive in anything he does and hates to lose. So why don't we just let them play. Both Knights and Olympia like many other teams have recruited players from other clubs and this will continue into the future.

Tommy actually stated in his post that Janko DID play for Olympia at senior level, indicating that he did play for them "at some level" as you put it and noone is disputing that fact. Pretty safe/stupid bet seeing as Tommy only mentioned he did not play at Olympia during his JUNIOR days. Well done George, please get off the blog and stop trying to lead your club with your wallet. #46 You are correct. Yes I agree I misread the post. I now withdraw the bet as the Tommy post acknowledges JB did play with Olympia. I apologise to those who care. My personal betting activity has nothing to do with anything pertaining to the club. Wallets are needed to fund clubs. Most clubs have benefactors who help out. Perhaps you are one for your club. Perhaps you just sit on the fence bagging out people and take take take. Perhaps you are a good bloke and are looking out for me. I know one thing you have exactly zero say in whether I blog or not. Seems to me that Mr. Pitchford has a special arrangement with the media (collective term) that if they leave him alone in the pre-season he will be especially cooperative during the league campaign.

Heard a whisper or two that Mr. P is holding an ace up his sleeve regarding a special signing ........all to b revealed in the league campaign!

Not to mention an announcement of his assistant coach in due course!

Thanks for all the coments everyone, didn't realise i was such a HOT topic. Lets get some facts straight,i played for both zebra's (underage), and olympic (seniors and reserves) before i played my first game with the knights. I have deciced to play at olympia to play with a good friend of mine (fishy the fainter), for those of you that don't know, josh was in my wedding party and fainted half way through my wifes vowes, (LOL,think he still has the hot's for her), to see if i can play senior soccer again and for my son to be able to watch his dad play. Lets not be silly here, im not expecting to set the leauge on fire, im under no illusions that it will take me at least ten games to get back up to speed with the pace of the game, so for all those people that can't wait to judge how im going, save it until the second round of the season. #35 i am happy to do an interveiw with the media and my guess is that you dont know me very well,so if you would like to conduct the interview, just give me a buzz. Last of all, all the best for the following season to Chris Hay (who taught me how to play when i was a junior) and Eeamon Kelly (who i won premierships with) and everyone else who is playing or coaching this year.

#55 It would pay to get your facts right. In the dark world of anonymous blogging, the comments do not always pertain to the club you suppose!! I know for a fact that it is NOT and Eagles player who posts the CSE comments. Eagles are getting on with their season prep as they see fit. Hope they can continue to build upon the form they demonstrated at sesons end last year.

I love Janko Begovic. If only I wasn't banned for another 2 years I would go and watch him play.

The T-Rex is coming!!!

[quote name="Janko Begovic"] Lets not be silly here, im not expecting to set the leauge on fire, im under no illusions that it will take me at least ten games to get back up to speed with the pace of the game, so for all those people that can't wait to judge how im going, save it until the second round of the season.

Janko its very tough coming back from retirement, regular training would be a good start. Good luck.

Weren't eagles hopeless last half of the season last year? Also, it's not 'an' Eagles player. Opposed to your "NOT and Eagles player". Quoting Anonymous:

Simple explanation really, there is no spell check on the blog so Eagles players have trouble sending anything that makes sense.

yup.

Hit the nail on the head i would suggest #50, good work!

How can a team that made the GF be hopeless? You all talk about Eagles players coming on here and being blog bashers but have a look at yourselves! Worry about your own club

Lets compare Eagles 1st half of the 2011 season to second half. Which form would you prefer to have Mr. Eagles? you cant put it back on somebody else by saying look at your own club. I'm very happy with the progress my club has been making which is why I am able to comment on these matters. Must of hit a nerve??

Also just a correction from earlier. It's 'an' Eagles player. Opposed to your "NOT and Eagles player". I had the word 'not' in my head because it was emphasized so well with the use of caps. My bad ;)

Roberts & Robb the big improvers from knights look out for them this year. Hopefully Dawes can prove his quality & Hey take the next step as well.

Does anyone know if Gout & Letiko are eligable to play on friday night?

Is eamon forfilling his suspension earned at knights?

4 - 2 Glenorchy for me. (Janko to see red)

Kelly was given a suspension by the club which led to his resignation. No suspensions outside of the club where handed down. May need to do some research?

T Rex climb up a telegraph pole and make like "The Angel of The Forest" protesting against logging. I am sure the local soccer supporters will set up a pulley system to feed you pies and a couple of beers with 3 days this weekend of soccer at Warrior Park it will just be watching Fox Sports..You can do it bruiser! Oh and some ciggies when required.

Cheers Dallas

And just to add T Rex aka Bruiser if you got in touch earlier I could of organised a large Wooden Horse to be wheeled to the front gates of Warrior Park and waved through. Its all about thinking outside the square nobody could possibly think you were hiding in there watching the game out the rear end.. Cheers DJ

From what i've seen there are plenty of simple types in the league.

I would say its the bitter type that maybe rate themselves quite high and were given a lesson last year technically and physically on the football pitch so the 'Eagles players are dumb' comments are their last resort

I Didn't say two players did. But they pass on the experience. My point is that they have more premiership winning players than Eagels. and that some of their current squad was involved.
