Tasmania United may not have a chance to put in a bid for an A-League place for two, three or even four years as Football Federation Australia is intent on consolidating the current 10-team format.

That was the message delivered by the Tasmania United FC Taskforce deputy chairman, Brian Downes, at a media conference yesterday at Wrest Point Hotel-Casino.

This is an official FFA media release:

MÖNCHENGLADBACH, GERMANY 29 June 2011

The Westfield Matildas posted one of their most impressive performances at a FIFA Women’s World Cup only to be beaten by world number three Brazil, 1-nil, in their first match of Group D.

A Rosana strike on 54 minutes was the only difference between the two sides with Australia having 12 shots on goal and dominating possession against the much fancied Brazilians.
